The Pickety Witch — Back To Your Regularly Scheduled Program

Lil Bites

If you're hyped after (or before) Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, Linds has some recs for all your other escape-y needs! To be honest, I can't remember if I've shared Stitch's story about who actually gets to escape in fandom, but I love it so even if I've shared before I'm sharing it again! I do what I want! Allyssa Capri takes a look at how Never Have I Ever season 2 tackles workplace discrimination. And, finally, Emma Fraser takes a look at how Ted Lasso can keep Keeley and Roy's — the most important relationship ever — romance alive in the upcoming second season of the Apple TV+ smash hit!

The Good News Is,

Get Loud

Be these friends.

The Baby Step

Boycott Frito Lay. Don't cross the picket line. (The chips will still be there when the workers have rights!)

I Want to do More

Keep the facts straight on what's happening in Cuba. This website helps debunk misinformation as the people of Cuba protest the government.

Equally as important is listening to Cubans. Lulu Garcia-Navarro talks with Havana-based Washington Post columnist Abraham Jimenez Enoa about the unrest in Cuba.

Why is it a big deal that Cubans are protesting? Cuba is a socialist dictatorship. The Communist Party of Cuba has been in control since Fidel Castro took over in 1959. Said party does not protect the freedom of speech or assembly of its people.

Then why are Cubans risking protest? Cuba is facing severe food shortages. US embargo coupled with extreme ineptitude from the Cuban government have resulted in economic crisis. Meanwhile, the pandemic runs rampant, both putting a stop to tourism and threatening the lives and livelihoods of the people.

How can I help?

  • Contact your rep and ask that they recognize the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Cuba. Doing so increases the likelihood of aid to the island, and helps raise awareness.
  • Share Cuban voices.
  • Follow #SOSCuba to stay up to date, but be sure you're verifying what you see via the links above. Don't help misinformation spread.

Whatcha Watchin'?

If you follow my socials it's absolutely no surprise to you that I'm about to completely gush about the Fear Street trilogy. If you don't: SURPRISE! Gay shit. Witch shit. GAY WITCH SHIT. 1994 and 1666 are practically tailor made for me. 1978 is the weird sister I don't really talk to at camp, but I still love her all the same. The last three weeks have been an absolute blitz of wonderful YA horror and I couldn't be happier about it. Here are my reviews for the trilogy:
