The Good News Is,

Get Loud

President Biden still isn't holding Israel accountable. We've talked about this before, but it's just as important — if not more — that we hold the politicians we typically agree with accountable as well. I know I said I would keep this domestic, but sometimes I'm going to break my own rules. Moreover, this is domestic, just not in a way a lot of Americans know about. Read on.

The Baby Step

American taxpayers are funding weapons sent to Israel. Use this tool to find out how much of your money is going to genocide, and contact your reps to urge that they fight for change.

I Want to do More

First, read this TIME report. In an online world, it can feel like absolutely nothing we do matters. This conflict has been going on for years, what could we possibly change now? The answer to that question is literally the world (wrote the cynic). We have the power to make change, and sometimes it's important to see fancy news reporters talk to us about how we do so.

Next, read through this. There are some areas in there that some folks won't be comfortable supporting, and that's cool — there are some orgs I disagree with listed, too. But I recommend digging through and seeing if there are ways to help that you connect with!

Whatcha Watchin?

While my full review is embargoed until Wednesday, I can tell you that I, much to my complete surprise, enjoyed Cruella. The trailer reactions that compared the film both to The Joker and The Devil Wears Prada are pretty far off (in one case, thankfully). This one is very much its own thing both stylistically and in the way it departs from 101 Dalmatians. We'll talk more in my review, but if you don't feel like the extra click, it's worth a trip to the theater/Disney+ Premier Access rental.

M.O.D.O.K was a huge miss for me, but it might tickle the funny bone of those missing some of the more rough around the edges early 2000s comedy.

Meanwhile, Legends of Tomorrow made me laugh so hard I cried this week. Like, wept, y'all. I couldn't get it together. I hope this stupid show never, ever changes.

This week's newsletter is sponsored by...

Have you checked out the Merri Hour yet? The weekly YouTube show is hosted by Matt Donato and Perri Nemiroff. The two discuss all the goings on of the movie world, and then Perri destroys Matt at beer pong. (This is what happens when you pay for an ad but don’t give me much content. I roast you. It’s true though, poor bud’s on a losing streak.)

As both a guest and a frequent watcher of the show (Fridays at 4PM PST/7PM EST), I can assure you it’s well worth your time. It’s one of the few good things to come out of quarantine. Watch their socials (tagged above) for the weekly link, or subscribe directly to Perri’s YouTube channel so you get the notifications!
