The Pickety Witch — Happy Wrath

The Pickety Witch — Happy Wrath

Lil Bites

Nicole Chung wrote an incredible piece for TIME about how she is tired of trying to educate white people. Emma Fraser tackled the Mare of Easttown finale in all of its familial glory. Not usually what I use this section for, but I babbled about how Disney knew the only way for Cruella to succeed was to completely retcon the character. Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya touched on how Pose delivered an iconic wedding episode. And finally, Olivette Otele writes about the rise of a Black queen in response to Jodie Turner-Smith as Anne Boleyne.

ICYMI...

Monday was Memorial Day, so you didn't miss any entertainment news. Hollywood was drinking. Here's a picture of my dog instead.

The Good News Is,

Get Loud

Trans rights are still under attack across the country. While LGBTQ folks still have to deal with plenty of strife as a whole, year over year we typically see bills set to protect the first three groups. Meanwhile, anti-Trans rhetoric has run rampant thanks to Cheeto and the help of noted cow J.K. R*wling and her ilk. Right now, one of the best things we can do is be vocal defenders of our Trans fam. See hateful bullshit? Call out hateful bullshit.

The Baby Step

You might be really tired of hearing me say this by now but call your representatives. Make it clear that someone who doesn't represent Trans rights doesn't represent you either and you absolutely plan to vote accordingly. Also? You don't need to have a kid to contact your school district. Your taxes fund them either way. Contact your local district and make it clear that you are against any and all rules excluding Trans children from sports, using bathrooms according to their gender, etc. Finally, follow Trans folks who speak on areas that interest you. They're the voices we need to be amplifying here.

I Want to do More

Some community centers actively support trans youth. If there's one in your area, I'd recommend donating to them directly. Also be on the lookout for trans folks trying to raise funds for gender-affirming surgeries. Most of them have to pay out of pocket, and the costs can be staggering. If neither of those things are in your orbit, here are some great charities to support!

Whatcha Watchin'?

I enjoyed Cruella! It's by no means perfect (quibbles outlined in review), but I had infinitely more fun with it than I'd expected to. (I haven't seen A Quiet Place II or The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. I have no opinions, only sadness. But will report back ASAP.)

There are a couple embargoed properties in the pipeline, but make sure that Hulu subscription is still active and you've got a way to access AMC!

May Patreon Breakdown

Patrons are currently voting on which charity we'll be donating to for May. As always, 10% of the month's proceeds will go to the charity of their choosing (this month hits $28)! We're sneakin' up on our next goal, too.

This month's Patron only newsletter dove a little deeper on Palestine, while the exclusive editorial went in on this bi prude's take on kink at pride. We also got featured by Revue! Other monthly rewards include early access to Insta layouts, a sponsorship tier, ✨letters✨, and general support for those who just want to help out!
