The Pickety Witch — Livin' the TCA Life
Lil Bites
In this house we love and support remakes. Even when our buddy Matt Donato is wrong about House on Haunted Hill (1999) being superior to House on Haunted Hill (1959). (Don't @ me, BJ.) We also love and support creators. Unfortunately, Marvel doesn't always have the same mentality. Finally, all-around rockstars Kay-B and Steph Williams are crushing it over on Amazon Prime Video's YouTube channel with the Superhero Club.
ICYMI...
- Clancy Brown is coming to John Wick 4.
- Look at her. She's the Morticia (Addams) now.
- Doom Patrol season 3 got a trailer and release date (it's Sept.)
- Dan Levy's working on a new (animated) series for Hulu!
- Rick and Morty's season finale is going to be an hour long, but you're going to have to wait for it.
The Good News Is,
- A pristine Visigoth coffin has been unearthed by archaeologists at Los Villaricos in southeastern Spain.
- Workers found out they have rights, and they're done.
- Rogers is still very cute.

Get Loud
A climate report came out this week. Some facts:
- Things are not great
- This is not new information
- We are still in a place that we can do something about it
Help stop the dramatics and help other people learn the facts, too. We should be taking this seriously. We should not be running around like our hair is on fire.
The Baby Step
A great, great baby step for this week is to read up on the Green New Deal. Republicans treat it like the boogeyman, Democrats treat it like a pipe dream, and Progressives are just desperately trying to get people behind the movement.
I Want to do More
Write/call your representatives and let them know that you support the Green New Deal, and that any future votes will exclusively go to candidates who plan to support it.
We as individuals can help with both big and small changes in our day to day lives, but we will never make headway on climate change until our country starts to hold the corporations and the fossil fuel lobby responsible for their part (which is the majority of the problem). You can help in a couple ways here:
- Investing in a cleaner future means the companies gambling our planet get less money. You get to help by helping, and by taking away some of their bottom line! Check and see if there are affordable solar/wind options in your area (in many cases, there are grants and tax refunds here, too).
- Looking for a new car? See if there are electric or even hybrid options that work for you. Who wants to give the oil industry their money, anyway?
- Read up on recycle rules in your county. Literally everywhere is different, and in many cases if there is a single thing that doesn't belong on the sorting belt the entire haul has to be scrapped.
- Cut. Your. Soda. Plastic. Or. I. Will. Cut. You. You. Are. Hurting. Turtles.
- Look for small, sustainable changes that work for you! You don't have to wake up tomorrow and start a compost heap. (Though I support you if that's the vibe!) See if gardening is your jam, look into ways to waste less food... etc.
- Don't beat yourself up on days where you don't do everything right. Remember that we can help, but the blame that's been put on us doesn't belong there. We are still responsible to help, but not everyone gets it 100% right. Paper straws can burn in hell and I will die on this hill. (I use re-usable silicon do not email me.)
And now, A word from our sponsors

Forever Young Adult has long been a haven for those who lean a little bit more adult on their YA journey, and they need our help! After the Drafthouse liquidized, wait... I'm just going to use their words:
But due to the pandemic, Alamo had to file for bankruptcy, which put our site in immediate danger of disappearing. We were able to preserve our content, but we could no longer update or post, which means we had two choices: shut down FYA, or rebuild the site from scratch.
There you have it. Birth. Movies. Death. readers? Our sister needs our help! Not a Birth. Movies. Death. reader? Well, you're here and I fully endorse the site, its shenanigans, and the incredible women who keep it going. You want independent journalism? Here's your independent journalism. Help keep it alive!
Whatcha Watchin'?
[waves from underneath a pile of screeners she can't actually talk about yet]
Here's some stuff I can actually talk about though!
- Heels hits STARZ this coming Sunday (August 15th). I love it. I reviewed it. I can't wait to talk to you more about upcoming story angles.
- Free Guy is a balm. I adored it. I clapped like a dork. I might have cheered. We don't know. No one has any proof. It hits theaters this Friday. If you're comfortable being in one — and vaccinated — go do that!
- The Suicide Squad is fine. Performances are great, gore is great, chemistry's great. But it lacks the emotional impact Gunn's become known for, and it punches down too often.
- I can't ~talk, talk~ about What If...? yet, but if you dug the comics you're going to have fun here. Review in next week's issue! (And on my social channels a couple hours after this week's issue drops.)
- Dave's finale hits this week. It's not a series that I would typically gravitate to but, despite having the most frustrating protagonist in the world, it's really solid.
- Reservation Dogs premiered on Monday, go check it out on Hulu ASAP!

- Support The Pickety Witch on Patreon or Ko-Fi!
- Tips, questions, concerns, etc? Hit that reply button!
- If you dug this week’s newsletter, hit that happy little thumbs up (and vice versa if you hated it! Feedback is how I make PW better). Sharing is always a huge help as well!
- If you’re looking for more of my shenanigans, you can follow me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
