Get Loud

7 million people lost their unemployment benefits on Labor Day. Decency has been dead in America for some time, but irony sure as hell isn't.

And this isn't a recess thing. There are currently no plans to extend the federal aid. Call your reps. While you're at it, strike up a conversation with your uncle who doesn't understand why these "poor bastards" don't just go risk their lives for $7.25 an hour.

The Baby Step

Snark aside, I had a very sincere — sometimes loud — conversation about this with my dad (he could go bowling with your uncle) a couple weeks back. Despite the "sometimes loud," he did listen when I broke down the math. Sometimes, folks just need to be educated. Sometimes it takes the right person explaining it to them for them to actually hear the information. When I told him that the federal minimum wage hadn't been raised since 2 years after I graduated, he was floored. Finding that right connection can really help drive those conversations home.

Changing the mind of one person matters. You can make that difference.

Whatcha Watchin?

You're probably tired of me saying it but I would just like to reiterate through the discourse that Ted Lasso is utterly exceptional every single week. There have been plenty of complaints about Nate's storyline, but man oh man the payoff there is going to be incredible. Also? It's a completely realistic portrayal of what happens when many bullied people become popular or gain an ounce of power. There's a lesson here. Believe.

On the binge front, I can't stop watching Britain's Best Home Cook. All the warmth of early GBBO with 100% more Mary Berry and 100% less Paul Hollywood.

As you can tell, I'm still on my warm media bullshit. The world sucks. We're allowed to want kind stories for a hot second!
