Top 10 Characters of 2021

In my head, this was such an easy prompt. I'm not sure if it's because I just used all of my brain power or I just think I'm smarter than I am, but now that I sit down to write it I wonder if I even watched movies or shows this year? Where are we? Who are you? Who is anyone. Anyway, I'm certain I'll write this, hit send, and immediately panic over an omission. Nevertheless, she persisted!

  • Wanda Maximoff: While this list isn't necessarily about performances, gat damn Elizabeth Olson. What a complicated, heartfelt, difficult character. I can't wait to see more of her in Multiverse of Madness.
  • Dr. Lillith Ritter: I can't resist a femme fatale, and Nightmare Alley's Dr. Ritter is [chef's kiss].
  • Ruby Rossi: I've still got a few more to power through, but there is a very strong chance that CODA will end up my film of the year. What a remarkable character Ruby is, and in such a wonderful film.
  • Katie: The Mitchells vs. the Machines is such a wonderful, wonderful movie. Shout out to my fellow creative kids with parents who didn't really get it who also sobbed their way though this movie.
  • Monica Rambeau: Teyonah Parris is such a ray of light, it's only fitting that she take on Photon. WandaVision ultimately failed her in the end, but I'm glad we'll see more of her character in The Marvels.
  • Kammy the Llama: Fuck you this was the best part of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. [llama noises]
  • Mimi: Psycho Goreman's unlikeable little lead makes me so increadibly happy. This kid is a monster, but you look right past her at her alien protector. A+.
  • Anita: This one's both a favorite performance and favorite character. Ariana DeBose's performance as Anita is one of the biggest reasons West Side Story succeeds the way it does.
  • Kate: A badass cheerleader? Fear Street: 1994's Kate was never not going to make this list. Shout out to the film for giving her a death so cool that I was both devastated and delighted.
  • Lucky the Pizza Dog: There is only one boy on this list and he's perfect.
